From 26 August 2025 on, the first people will receive an invitation for COVID-19 vaccination. RIVM will send the invitations till mid-October to people aged 60 years and older. The COVID-19 vaccination will be given from 15 September to 5 December 2025 at vaccination centres operated by the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs) throughout the Netherlands.
Extra protection for risk groups
The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is still present and may surge again. For people who have a higher risk of serious illness due to COVID-19, the COVID-19 vaccination offers extra protection against hospital admission or death due to COVID-19.
Invitation letter
Everyone aged 60 years and older will receive a letter from RIVM. People who received a COVID-19 vaccination from the GGD last year already have a proposed time slot for an appointment in the letter. Others are invited to make an appointment with the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). You can make an appointment via planjeprik.nl or by calling 0800-7070.
Making an appointment without a letter
Adults aged 50–59 years who are invited to get a seasonal flu vaccine every year can also get a COVID-19 vaccination. This also applies to children and adults with serious medical conditions, such as severe immune disorders. For more information, see the RIVM page about medical high-risk groups. Care workers who work with vulnerable patients are also eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination. These groups will not receive an invitation letter from RIVM. They can make an appointment themselves via planjeprik.nl or by calling 0800-7070.
Adults and children who are not in the target groups, but would still like to receive a COVID-19 vaccination due to a vulnerable family member or as advised by a treating physician, can also get a COVID-19 vaccination.
Recommendations to prevent respiratory infections
Some people can become very ill from infections caused by a coronavirus, influenza virus (flu) or cold virus. It is therefore still important for everyone to follow the recommendations to prevent respiratory infections.
GGD vaccination locations
The Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs) throughout the country will start giving the COVID-19 vaccination on 15 September 2025. This will continue until 5 December 2025, using the mRNA vaccine made by Pfizer/BioNTech. This vaccine has been adapted to target the coronavirus variants expected to circulate most widely.
People living in residential care institutions will receive the COVID-19 vaccination in the care facility itself. They will receive more information about this from the care institution.
In exceptional cases, when a serious illness, disorder or disability prevents people from going to a GGD vaccination centre on their own or with assistance, it is possible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination at home. Starting on 26 August 2025, people in these exceptional situations can contact the GGD by calling 0800-7070.
