The first Janssen vaccines will be administered to mental healthcare workers on Wednesday 21 April. The remaining doses of the Janssen vaccine that have already been delivered will be distributed to hospitals and mental healthcare institutions on Friday and Monday. The start of vaccination with the Janssen vaccine follows the decision by the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) to deploy the vaccine in the context of the vaccination programme, effective immediately.
The Janssen vaccine is initially intended for hospital workers who have direct contact with patients and for employees and clients in mental healthcare institutions. Nearly 80,000 doses were delivered to the Netherlands last week. In the intramural mental healthcare institutions, over 40,000 people under 65 years old are still waiting for a vaccination. The vaccines will be delivered to those locations on Monday. In hospitals, about 39,000 additional employees under the age of 60 who have direct contact with patients will also be vaccinated. The vaccines will be delivered to hospitals on Friday.
Schedule for the vaccination campaign
The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) determines the order in which groups are vaccinated. The advisory reports of the Health Council of the Netherlands are used as guidance. The start date for vaccination of the various target groups depends on vaccine availability. For the latest order of vaccination, please visit Government.nl.
