As of Thursday, 21 July 2022, the National Heatwave Plan is no longer in effect. RIVM also withdraws the smog alert.

Temperatures will be lower as of Wednesday and it will be less hot in most places in the coming days. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, KNMI and RIVM will remain vigilant to new periods of sustained heat. 

The National Heatwave Plan was active from Monday 18 July to Thursday 20 July. The plan comes into effect when a period of sustained heat is expected. Persistent warm weather poses a health risk for certain groups of people. Especially young children, the elderly, people in care homes, chronically ill and overweight people are risk groups.
