Following in-depth analyses conducted by the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (Nivel), based on the COVID-19 Health Monitor for Adults and the Elderly 2022, the results have now been published in a scientific article in the Journal of Psychiatric research.
In line with an earlier Nivel factsheet (in Dutch), which looked at symptoms of post-traumatic stress during the COVID-19 pandemic among adults in the Netherlands, the main conclusion of the article is that half of people with presumed PTSD were exhibiting symptoms caused by intense experiences directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The other half experienced symptoms as a result of intense experiences that were unrelated to COVID-19, such as a life-threatening accident or exposure to sexual violence.
