The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has made the shortlist for the 2018 election for best government organisation of the year. In all, more than thirty organisations were nominated for the election. RIVM and nine other government organisations have made the shortlist. The three finalists will be announced in September.

The selection committee consists of the project team Election of the Association for Government Management (VOM), the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, the Charter Group Public Accountability, the ICT Implementation Organization (ICTU), the Interprovincial Consultative Body, the Union of District Waterboards (UvW) ), the Association for Public Administration (VB), and the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG). In consultation with the jury, this committee has selected  the ten best entries based on assessment criteria.

Public and distinctive

The main criterion for nomination is that the organisation has a public function and receives public funding. An important criterion for the prize is distinctive competence. Nominees are also assessed for their business management, internet, performance measurements and management reports.

Finalists announced in September

Ten organisations have made the shortlist today. Besides RIVM, the organisations are the Rotterdam District Court, Province Gelderland and the municipality Stichtse Vecht. The Inspectorate for Education, the Central Government Real Estate Agency, the Land Registry, and various municipalities and water boards were also nominated. A jury under the leadership of chair Jan van Zanen will announce the three finalists in September. The winner of the Election Best Government Organisation of the Year 2018 will then be chosen based on pitches, programmes for the jury and working visits.
