Children are vaccinated against polio through the National Immunisation Programme. The polio vaccine is administered in a combination vaccine: DPTP-Hib-HepB. This vaccine also protects against diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, Hib disease and hepatitis B.
Children receive the DPTP-Hib-HepB vaccination three times in their first year, at 3, 5 and 12 months. When they reach the age of 14 years, they receive another repeat DTP vaccination.
See the website of the National Immunisation Programme for more information about the DPTP vaccination for children.
