Children are vaccinated against polio through the National Immunisation Programme. The polio vaccine is administered in a combination vaccine: DPTP-Hib-HepB. This vaccine also protects against diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, Hib disease and hepatitis B.
Children receive the DPTP-Hib-HepB vaccination three times in their first year, at 3, 5 and 11 months. When they reach the age of 4 years, they receive another repeat DPTP vaccination.
See the website of the National Immunisation Programme for more information about the DPTP vaccination for children.
