Building on the Collaborating Center’s previous research, the National Coordination Centre for Communicable Disease Control has extensive knowledge with respect to developing scientific based indicators and tools for the evaluation of infectious disease preparedness and the different contingency phases. The Collaborating Centre systematically performs scientific research on preparedness focusing on three main themes.
First, the Collaborating Centre performs scientific research on the added value of a context and network analysis perspective for preparedness planning. Manuscripts are in preparation regarding the stakeholder involvement and preparedness planning for outbreaks. In this research line, the National Coordination Centre for Communicable Disease Control works together with experts from the Free University of Amsterdam and the Tilburg University.
Second, research is carried out on indicator development for assessing preparedness and response; this research line is carried out in collaboration with the Radboud university medical centre Nijmegen. Third, research is being undertaken on how to link high-quality preparedness to high-quality response outcomes.
Furthermore, the Collaborating Centre has contributed to and supported various health organizations, nationally and internationally, in their efforts to prepare for (potential) Public Health events. For instance, in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) the National Coordination Centre for Communicable Disease Control has composed sets of indicators to determine and evaluate infectious disease preparedness at a country level, based on international consensus procedures. This involved also the performance of a literature review to identify essential information system options in the development of self-assessment tools regarding Public Health emergency preparedness.
