Abstract

In the national Environmental Balances and Environmental Outlooks, the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports the state-of -the-art in environmental quality, respectively. One of the aspects to be evaluated and monitored is the impact of noise levels in the Netherlands caused by road and railway traffic, and airport noise. Use is made of an acoustic model for monitoring the noise situation in the Netherlands in which noise levels from all roads, railway lines and major airports are taken into account. To monitor the development of the noise levels correctly requires the necessary model input data - specifically noise emission - and volume numbers to be available and sufficiently up to date. The current state of the available model input data is described and quality aspects for these sources, such as completeness and topicality, are evaluated, and possibilities for improvement are discussed.
