Abstract

This report describes the results obtained in an investigation of 99 samples minced beef for the presence of illegal xenobiotic anabolic steroids. In five samples (5%) the presence of medroxyprogesterone was detected in a range of 0.9 to 5.6 mug/kg. The identity of the residues was confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in accordance with the EC-criteria for reference methods. The concentrations detected do not pose a serious risk for the consumer.
