Samenvatting
Dit rapport bevat een integrale beschrijving van de rol van stikstof in het milieu. Emissies van verschillende stikstofverbindingen worden gegeven en het transport van stikstof door het milieu (lucht, bodem, grond- en oppervlaktewater) wordt beschreven. Ook worden de ecologische effecten op zowel terrestrische als aquatische ecosystemen besproken, alsmede de risico's voor de volksgezondheid. De consequenties voor de drinkwatervoorziening worden eveneens behandeld.
Abstract
This report contains an integrated survey of the role of nitrogen in the environment. Emissions of several nitrogen components are given, and the fate and transport of nitrogen through the environment (air, soil, groundwater and surface water) is described. The ecological effects in both terrestric and aquatic ecosystems as well as risks for the public health are evaluated. The implications for the public water supply are discussed.
