In 2025, around 40 per cent of the kilos of products sold in supermarkets were in line with the Wheel of Five. PLUS and Jumbo scored approximately 38 per cent, with Albert Heijn and Aldi scoring 40 per cent and Lidl 45 per cent. This was revealed by an initial survey carried out by RIVM, Netherlands Nutrition Centre and Wageningen University & Research (WUR).

The results can be found on the Supermarket Dashboard: Sustainability and Health. Although the percentages provide an initial picture, they do not yet offer sufficient information to draw firm conclusions. The method requires further development in the coming years to enable such things as trends to become clear.

About the monitor

The Wheel of Five monitor is a national monitor that tracks the sale of Wheel of Five products sold by Dutch supermarkets. The proportion of these products in relation to total sales volume is monitored, in collaboration with the supermarkets. The monitor was designed and is being implemented by RIVM, The Netherlands Nutrition Centre and WUR on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

Various data sources are used for this monitor, including the Branded Food Database (in Dutch: Levensmiddelendatabank) and the database for dietary units and sizes (in Dutch: Portie-online). The monitor also forms part of the assessment of progress on the commitments set out in the National Prevention Agreement and the Comprehensive Prevention Strategy. RIVM, The Netherlands Nutrition Centre and Wageningen University & Research can advise the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport on the monitor’s further development and on follow-up measurements.
