In the autumn round of 2024, a total of 2,513,671 COVID-19 vaccinations were registered by RIVM. Vaccination coverage for people over 60 is 46.6%. Vaccination coverage varies by age group and region. Until 6 December 2024, the COVID-19 vaccination was available and advised for people aged 60 and older, people aged 18 to 59 who are invited every year to get the seasonal flu vaccine, children and adults who could become very ill from COVID-19 (for example due to severely impaired immunity), and care workers who have direct contact with vulnerable patients.
Vaccination coverage in 2024 autumn round by age group and region
Vaccination coverage among over-60s was lowest for people aged 60–64 (29.1%) and highest for people aged 80–84 (60.7%). Vaccination coverage was slightly lower than average in the three largest cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague). In some municipalities in the provinces of Friesland and Overijssel, in the ‘Bible belt’ and along the eastern border of the Netherlands, vaccination coverage was also lower than the national average.
Vaccination coverage in autumn round of 2024 and 2023
Vaccination coverage among over-60s was 3.9% lower in the 2024 autumn round, compared to the 2023 autumn round (46.6% versus 50.5%). The differences between age groups reflect the same trends as in 2023: in 2023, vaccination coverage was also lowest among people aged 60–64 and highest among people aged 75–79 and 80–84.
COVID-19 vaccination in 2025
The autumn round is over, but COVID-19 vaccination remains available to adults and children in medical high-risk groups who are referred by their treating physician. There will be a new round of COVID-19 vaccination in autumn 2025. RIVM will announce more about next year’s autumn round during the course of 2025.
