The delta variant of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is occurring more and more often in the Netherlands.

In the past calendar week, there were 43% fewer hospital admissions of patients with COVID-19 compared to the week before.

In the week from 17 to 23 March, 46,005 people received a positive test result for COVID-19, an increase of 16% compared to the week before that. The reproduction number continued to rise, from 1.06 on 1 March to 1.11 on 8 March.

In the week from 2 to 9 March, 31,959 people received a positive test result for COVID-19, about the same as in the week before that. More than 360,000 people were tested, an increase of nearly 14% compared to the week before that.

Compliance with the coronavirus measures in the Netherlands, such as the night-time curfew, working from home and avoiding crowds, is still high.

1,329 new COVID-19 infections were reported over the past week. That is 342 more confirmed cases reported than the week before that, when 987 new COVID-19 infections were reported.

The results of 14 days of monitoring of source and contact tracing are known for week 26 (22 to 28 June).

The first results of RIVM’s National Wastewater Surveillance show that the novel coronavirus in sewage is decreasing in the Netherlands.

The sense of threatening danger from the novel coronavirus is declining. People are feeling less anxious and despondent than in the initial phase of the coronavirus pandemic.
