PFAS
The abbreviation PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. These are man-made substances that do not naturally occur in the environment. Examples of PFAS are GenX, PFOA perfluoro octanoic acid and PFOS perfluorooctane sulfonates. PFAS are used in many products. As a result, and due to emissions and incidents, these substances have ended up in the environment and are now found in, among other things, soil, dredging spoil and surface water.
