In the autumn round of 2025, a total of 2,253,476 COVID-19 vaccinations were registered by RIVM. Vaccination coverage for people over 60 is 41.7%. Vaccination coverage varies by age group and region. Until 5 December 2025, the COVID-19 vaccination was available and advised for people aged 60 and older, people aged 50 to 59 who are invited every year to get the seasonal flu vaccine, children and adults who could become very ill from COVID-19 (for example due to severely impaired immunity), and care workers who have direct contact with vulnerable patients. People who are not in the target groups, but still wanted to be vaccinated due to a vulnerable family member or as advised by a treating physician, also had the option to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

Vaccination coverage in 2025 autumn round by age group and region

Vaccination coverage among over-60s was lowest for people aged 60–64 (24.7%) and highest for people aged 80–84 (55.8%). Regional differences in vaccination coverage were comparable to previous years. Vaccination coverage is lower than average in various large cities and in various municipalities in Friesland, Oost-Groningen, Overijssel and in the ‘Bible belt’. Relatively high vaccination coverage was observed in various municipalities in Utrecht, Gelderland and Noord-Brabant.

Vaccination coverage in autumn round compared to last year

Vaccination coverage among over-60s was 4.9% lower in the 2025 autumn round, compared to the 2024 autumn round (46.6%). The differences between age groups reflect the same trends as in 2024: last year, vaccination coverage was also lowest among people aged 60–64 and highest among people aged 75–79 and 80–84.

COVID-19 vaccination in 2026

Outside the context of the autumn round, COVID-19 vaccination remains available to adults and children in medical high-risk groups who are referred by their treating physician.

A new COVID-19 vaccination round is expected to be offered in autumn 2026. RIVM will announce more about next year’s autumn round during the course of 2026.
