New knowledge centre helps companies innovate safely and sustainably

The Netherlands is establishing a new knowledge centre to help companies develop safe and sustainable chemical substances and products. The centre is a collaboration between RIVM, TNO, IenW and the VNCI. Its aim is to take health, the environment and sustainability into account from the earliest stage of designing substances and products. In this way, the centre aims to prevent society from facing new problem substances in the future, such as PFAS.

Safe recycling of textiles possible, but still in its infancy

Textiles are produced using chemicals. Although many hazardous chemicals may no longer be used in textile production, they may still be present in donations of old clothing. RIVM has conducted a study into the safety of recycled textiles.
