Dietary choices link human health with environmental sustainability. Policies and interventions that target dietary choices from both perspectives can be effective for changes in both areas, although trade-offs exist as well.
There is a wide range of policies and interventions available to steer consumers’ eating behaviour. Policies combining health and sustainability diet objectives, however, are few and mainly of the information type such as national dietary guidelines. In this field of expertise, the health and sustainability impact of foods and dietary patterns is studied in relation to available policy options. Results can contribute towards the alignment of the health and environmental policy areas to ensure more coherent and effective policy interventions for sustaining human health as well as the environment.
