Samenvatting
De Centrale Organisatie voor Radioactief Afval (COVRA) meet hoeveel radioactiviteit zij in afvalwater en ventilatielucht loost. Het RIVM krijgt van COVRA (Centrale Organisatie Voor Radioactief Afval) monsters van afvalwater en ventilatielucht en meet hoeveel radioactiviteit daarin zit. Elk jaar vergelijkt het RIVM deze metingen met de resultaten van COVRA. De Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming (ANVS) gebruikt deze 'contra-expertise' om in te schatten hoe betrouwbaar de metingen van de nucleaire installatie zijn.
Net als in de jaren ervoor kwamen de analyses van afvalwater door het RIVM in 2024 goed overeen met de resultaten van COVRA. Het gammaspectrometrische resultaat, de resultaten van de totaal-bèta bepaling, en de tritiumbepaling kwamen goed overeen. Het resultaat in de 14Cbepaling in afvalwater kwam redelijk overeen. Het resultaat van de totaal-alfa activiteitsconcentratie was bij COVRA en het RIVM net boven de detectiegrens, met een matige overeenstemming.
Verder kwamen de resultaten van het RIVM en COVRA van de ventilatieluchtmonsters van het Afvalverwerkingsgebouw (AVG) en het Hoogradioactief Afval Behandelings- en Opslag Gebouw (HABOG) goed overeen voor tritium en 14C. Er is in geen enkel monster een gammaactiviteit, of een totaal-alfa of totaal-bèta activiteit in ventilatielucht gevonden.
Het RIVM voert de contra-expertises uit in opdracht van de ANVS.
Abstract
The Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA) measures the release of radioactivity in waste water and ventilation air. The RIVM receives samples of waste water and ventilation air from COVRA and determines their radioactive contents. Each year the RIVM compares these measurements with the results from COVRA. The Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) uses this comparison to estimate the reliability of the measurements by COVRA.
In 2024, the analyses in a waste water sample are generally in agreement with the results found by COVRA itself. The agreement in the results for gamma-emitters, gross beta, and tritium was good. The agreement in the RIVM and COVRA result for 14C in waste water was reasonable. The result for gross alpha obtained by both COVRA and RIVM was just above the detection limit, with poor agreement.
In ventilation air samples of the waste treatment building (AVG) and the high activity waste storage building (HABOG), the results for 3H and 14C obtained by RIVM and COVRA are in good agreement. In ventilation air samples from AVG and HABOG no gross alpha, no gross beta and no gamma activity was found.
RIVM carried out this contra expertise on behalf of the ANVS.
