Samenvatting
Het RIVM onderzocht de relatie tussen geboren worden in een meervoudig kwetsbare situatie en het zorggebruik en de zorguitgaven van kinderen tot zes jaar na de geboorte. Het percentage kinderen dat geboren wordt in een meervoudig kwetsbare situatie is afgenomen tussen 2017 en 2023. Deze kinderen gebruiken de eerste zes jaar na hun geboorte meer zorg en maken hogere zorgkosten. Dit geldt voor de totale zorgkosten en specifieke typen zorg zoals huisartsenzorg, ziekenhuiszorg, farmaceutische zorg, paramedische zorg en mondzorg. Ook binnen het sociaal domein zijn er verschillen zichtbaar, bijvoorbeeld in het gebruik van speciaal onderwijs en jeugdhulp. Het RIVM benadrukt het belang om blijvend te investeren in kansengelijkheid in het vroege leven.
Abstract
RIVM studied the relationship between being born into a situation of multiple vulnerabilities and the healthcare use and expenditures of children up to six years after birth. The percentage of children born into such vulnerable situations decreased between 2017 and 2023. These children use more healthcare services and have higher healthcare expenditures in their first six years of life. This applies to overall healthcare expenditures as well as specific types of care, such as general practitioner care, hospital care, pharmaceutical care, paramedical care, and dental care. Differences are also found in the social domain, for example in the use of special education and youth care. RIVM stresses the importance of continued investment in equal opportunities early in life.
