Abstract

The RIVM studied the use of postpartum care at home and the healthcare expenditures for mothers and children up to six years after birth. Families in vulnerable situations, such as those with lower incomes, lower levels of education, or a migration background, consistently receive less postpartum care. There is no direct link between the number of hours of postpartum care received and later healthcare expenditures. The RIVM emphasizes the importance of equal access to postpartum care and advises continuous improvement of policies to support this.
