Abstract

A pilot plant study on the removal of chlorate during artificial recharge of river water has been conducted. The results of the study have revealed a high degree of removal of chlorate under anaerobic conditions, characterized by a complete denitrification. No removal was found under aerobic and slightly anaerobic conditions (partial denitrification). The study confirms that nitrate has an inhibitive influence on biological reduction of chlorate.
