The National Network of Safety and Security Analysts (ANV) conducts its activities at the request of the Ministry of Justice and Security. Main purpose of the ANV is to perform different types of analyses from the perspective of national security. These analyses share a common goal of providing a better understanding of the possible threats that can disrupt the functioning of society. Analytical results are used by for example government agencies for both strategy and policy-making to mitigate the threats in question. The general secretariat of the ANV is housed at RIVM.
The core of the network consists of seven organisations. These are:
- The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM)
- The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO)
- The Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael’
- SEO Amsterdam Economics
- The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD)
- The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD)
- Research and Documentation Centre of the Ministry of Justice and Security (Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek- en Documentatiecentrum, WODC)
Depending on the topic at hand, the ANV can call on the assistance of other organisations and their expertise.
