The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, RIVM will move to the Utrecht Science Park in 2021. Together with the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB), RIVM will occupy the new building on the 'Weg tot de Wetenschap' in Utrecht. 

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) is opposed to the unnecessary use of lab animals and is a major supporter of the use of alternatives. However, if it is to carry out its tasks properly, research using lab animals is necessary in some cases.

The Strategic Programme RIVM (SPR) is our programme for our own research, innovation and knowledge development. With this programme, we focus on topics that deserve extra attention because they may have an impact on public health and the environment in the future.

It goes without saying that a scientific knowledge institute such as the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) should strive for improvement and innovation in its work. Innovation means not only anticipating changes in society but also initiating innovation itself.

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) works to ensure public health and a clean, safe living environment. Therefore, sustainability – including environmental care – is also given high priority in our own work. This is in keeping with our mission and tasks.

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) collects and combines knowledge in order to place this at the disposal of others. To this end, we collaborate, both nationally and internationally, with partners, commissioning clients and other parties.

RIVM aims to be an honest and reliable partner for government bodies and other organisations involved in public health and the environment.

Scientific research forms the basis for all the work carried out by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). RIVM carries out high-quality, authoritative research in the fields that it regards as strategically significant.
