COVID-19 vaccination and excess mortality

Since 2009, RIVM has been monitoring how many people die in the Netherlands per week. The number of deaths (referred to as mortality) is monitored based on data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). This enables RIVM to assess how mortality is affected by unique circumstances, such as an outbreak of an infectious disease. RIVM publishes these figures on its website on a weekly basis.

Post-COVID

Some people keep having symptoms for a long time after having COVID-19. If their symptoms persist for longer than 3 months, it is called post-COVID. Not much information is available about post-COVID yet. That is why it is being researched extensively.

Publication overview of behavioural and perception research into ‘the environment and safety’

On this page, you will find an overview of current and completed studies into behaviour and perception relating to environmental and safety issues. Subdivided into our 4 research areas: Citizen participation Risk and safety perception Risk communication  Behaviour

Research into citizen participation in relation to the environment and safety

RIVM believes it is important to actively involve citizens in scientific research, because citizen participation results in valuable data and perspectives that would otherwise remain hidden. That is why we support the deployment of citizen science and examine how this provides added value in environmental and safety issues.

Research into perceptions relating to the environment and safety

Through its research into risk and safety perceptions, RIVM contributes to finding solutions to environmental and safety issues. After all, the way in which people perceive the risks and safety in their living environment influences their health, behaviour and support for policy. The perception of safety is therefore just as important for safety as the risks calculated by scientists.

Behavioural research into the environment and safety

Through its research into behaviour and behavioural change, RIVM contributes to finding solutions to environmental and safety issues. After all, it is often not possible to solve these problems exclusively through technical innovations. Why do people act sustainably and why do they not? Which interventions are effective in creating behavioural change? That is what our studies into behaviour and behavioural change aim to find out.

Research into environment and safety-related risk communication

Through its scientific research, RIVM contributes to finding solutions to environmental and safety issues. This research will serve to improve communications about risks and safety. Effective risk communication takes the context and the risk perception of the target group into account. The goal is to help give people a better understanding of the risks involved and to encourage safe behaviour.
