Behavioural and perception research on the environment and safety

RIVM conducts research into behavioural and perception issues related to the environment and safety. Based on scientific insights, we provide advice on perception and behaviour to the government (central government, provinces and municipalities), professionals and citizens. We also share our knowledge and, in doing so, contribute to a safe and sustainable society. If you would like to know more about the possibilities for research, please send an email to onderzoekperceptieengedrag@rivm.nl.  Our research reports are accessible to everyone. You are free to use the scientific insights contained therein, for example as input for policy and to improve communications on safety and sustainable behaviour.

Online pre-meeting 16 July 2024

This pre-meeting holds immense significance as it serves as a foundational platform. This will provide essential background information particularly tailored for participants from the newly added environmental domain and also for the new (aspiring) members of the European One Health Association (EOHA) formerly the Med-Vet-Net Association (MVNA). That said, all invitees to the OHSE kick-off meeting are encouraged to participate, engage, and ask questions.

How is exposure to BPA limited?

EFSA last conducted measurements and calculations on the exposure of the European population to BPA in 2015. This exposure exceeded the current guidance value. However, this information is outdated, as the European Commission has taken many measures to reduce exposure since that time. Despite the fact that exposure levels are currently lower than they were in 2015, RIVM does expect exposure to still exceed the guidance value. This is why RIVM is recommending that exposure to BPA to be reduced where possible. This can be achieved by banning BPA and replacing it with safe alternatives where necessary or by ensuring that less BPA leaches from products.

Health effects of BPA

Excessive exposure to BPA can have detrimental effects on human health. For example, it is widely known that BPA can disrupt the human immune system or have harmful effects on metabolism, nervous system, endocrine system, reproductive system and on the development of the nervous system of the unborn child.
