Approach used in the quarterly study among adults

This page offers a description of our approach for the quarterly study among adults. For the third round of the quarterly study, we used two data sources: a survey among adults and data from primary care providers (GPs).

Quarterly study among adults – round 3

The third quarterly round of the Health Research for COVID-19 study took place in March 2022. In this study, the GOR Network researches the health effects of the COVID-19 crisis. The first survey among adults shows that they feel generally healthy and do not experience more mental health problems than they did before the COVID-19 crisis. The Network for Health Research in Disasters (GOR Network) publishes a quarterly update on this page, summarising key results from survey research and data from primary care providers. The aim is to provide information to municipalities, provinces and the national government of the Netherlands to assist them in formulating policies.

Approach used in the quarterly youth study

This page offers a description of our approach for the quarterly youth study. For the fourth round, we used two data sources: a survey among young people and data from primary care providers (GPs).

Quarterly youth study – round 1

The first round of the quarterly survey of the youth panel was conducted in September 2021. The results are part of the Health Research for COVID-19 study. Young people generally indicated being in good health and feeling happy. About half of those surveyed indicated that the coronavirus measures had positively affected their relationships with family and friends, while 15% reported that the measures had a negative influence on their friendships. Also, more often than before the pandemic (2019), young people (aged 15-24 years) visited their GP for symptoms such as severe stress or crisis and feelings of depression.

Quarterly youth study – round 2

The second round of the quarterly survey of the youth panel was conducted in December 2021. The results are part of the Health Research for COVID-19 study. During this research round, the majority of the young people surveyed indicated they were in good general health (86%) and felt happy (79%), which is in line with the first research round. However, half of the young people (49%) perceived a negative or very negative impact from the measures. Additionally, the demand for care for depression-related symptoms and nausea among young people increased during the last months of 2021.

Quarterly youth study – round 3

The third round of the quarterly youth study (children, adolescents and young adults aged 12 to 25 years) took place in March 2022. The results are part of the Health Research for COVID-19 study. This survey showed that young people in particular were struggling mentally at the time of the survey and during the 3 months before that. A lockdown was in effect during this period.

Quarterly youth study – round 4

The fourth round of the quarterly youth study (children, adolescents and young adults aged 12 to 25 years) took place in June 2022. The results are part of the Health Research for COVID-19 study. This survey showed that there was recovery in physical symptoms and confidence in the future, compared to the previous round. However, young people are still struggling with poor mental health.
