In de bovenstaande tabel zijn de meldingsplichtige infectieziekten ingedeeld zoals beschreven in de Wet publieke gezondheid. * Sinds 2008 is er sprake van een stijgend aantal meldingen van STEC/enterohemorragische E.coli-infectie. Dit is grotendeels toe te schrijven aan het feit dat steeds meer laboratoria STEC diagnosticeren met een PCR (polymerase chain reaction). Deze PCR-methode detecteert echter alle STEC en niet alleen STEC-O157 zoals bij de kweekmethode.
