Ticks can carry various pathogens and transmit them to humans. The most common tick-borne disease in the Netherlands is Lyme disease. Other tick-borne pathogens found in this country include the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus and various bacteria. 

Information on some of the pathogens transmitted by ticks
