Overview of the numbers

  • The total number of confirmed cases: 9762 (+1159)
  • The total number of confirmed cases who are or were admitted to hospital: 2954 (+454)
  • The total number of reported deaths: 639 (+93)

Explanation

As seen yesterday, the number of reported new hospital admissions and Intensive Care admissions appears to be increasing less rapidly. The number of reported deceased COVID-19 patients is lower than yesterday. Because not all patients can be reported immediately, the reported numbers may differ slightly from the actual situation.

The number of reported hospital admissions and the number of reported deaths from COVID-19 is increasing less rapidly than would have been expected without measures in place. If this trend continues, we can conclude in a couple of days whether the measures are working.

The province with the most confirmed cases is still Noord-Brabant with a total of 2748 persons. However, the number of new hospital admissions in this province is decreasing. Subsequently, the most confirmed cases were reported in Zuid-Holland (1508) and Noord-Holland (1401). In the province of Zuid-Holland, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed cases is rising faster than in other provinces. The provinces of Friesland and Drenthe are still the provinces with the fewest infections, 96 and 98 confirmed cases, respectively.

Overview of the numbers

The total number of confirmed cases: 8603 (+1172)

The total number of confirmed cases who are or were admitted to hospital: 2500 (+349)

The total number of reported deaths: 546 (+112)

Explanation

On a national level, the number of reported deaths as a result of COVID-19 is still increasing. The number of reported new patients admitted to hospital and Intensive Care appears to be increasing less rapidly.

As reported yesterday, the number of patients admitted to hospital and the number of deceased patients is increasing less rapidly then would have been expected without measures in place. If this trend continues, we can conclude in a couple of days whether the measures (keeping distance, limiting social contact, washing hands) are working.

The province with the highest number of confirmed cases is still Noord-Brabant with 2488 cases. However, the number of new patients admitted to hospital in this province is decreasing. After that, the most confirmed cases are reported in Zuid-Holland (1249) and Noord-Holland (1235). In these two provinces the number of patients admitted to hospital is increasing relatively rapidly. This is also the case in the province of Gelderland.

The provinces of Friesland and Drenthe report the least contaminations with respectively 83 and 81 confirmed cases.

More available data on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus

RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment is receiving more and more information on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. For example, the latest data from the National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE) Foundation is now included in the reports. We provide a daily update on charts and reports in a PDF overview.

The figures provided for the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the deaths due to COVID-19 are based on the reports received from the Municipal Public Health Services (GGD). There is a delay between the day on which a person dies and the day on which the death is reported. The number of deceased patients reported per day may include deaths that occurred over the course of several days. The actual number of COVID-19 cases is higher than the number of reports.

Overview of the numbers

  • Total number of confirmed cases: 7431 (+1019)
  • Total number of reported deaths: 434 (+78)
  • Total number of confirmed cases who are or were admitted to hospital: 2151 (+315)

Explanation

The number of patients admitted to hospital and the number of deceased patients are increasing less rapidly than would have been expected without measures in place. This could indicate that the measures taken are having an effect on how fast the virus is spreading. It will be possible to interpret these effects more clearly at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

The area with the highest number of confirmed cases is the province of Noord-Brabant, where 2161 people tested positive. After that, the most confirmed cases were reported in Zuid-Holland (1042) and Noord-Holland (1029). The provinces of Friesland and Drenthe reported the fewest COVID-19 infections: 71 and 72 respectively.

Most of the deceased patients were in the age category of 80 – 84 years.

Possible flattening in number of new hospital admissions for patients with COVID-19

Over the past few days, the number of new patients admitted to hospital had shown a rising curve. That curve now seems to be flattening out. This may indicate a slight decline in how fast the virus is spreading. This is an initial indication. We cannot draw solid conclusions on this basis. It will become apparent in the next few days whether the curve is in fact flattening out.

Based on the figures for the number of hospital admissions, mathematical models are used to calculate how fast the virus is spreading. It would also appear that the virus is now spreading less rapidly. Here, too, it will become apparent in the next few days whether this slowing trend continues.

A number of deceased patients were reported again today. However, those reports concerned people who had died sometime within the past few days. Deaths are not always reported immediately. For that reason, a new chart now shows the number of deceased patients according to the day on which they died.

Overview of the numbers

  • Total number of confirmed cases: 6412 (+852)
  • Total number of reported deaths: 356 (+ 80)
  • Total number of confirmed cases who are or were admitted to hospital: 1836 (+341)
