Vaccination leads to lower transmission of HPV

Due to vaccination against HPV, fewer people are transmitting HPV to others. The spread of HPV is decreasing as a result. Research shows that HPV vaccination indirectly also protects unvaccinated women to some extent. This shows the importance of vaccination against HPV.

Tuberculosis increases slightly in the Netherlands

The number of people with tuberculosis in the Netherlands increased slightly in 2024. Tuberculosis cases have returned to about the same level as shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, 18 per cent of adults smoked, 6 per cent drank alcohol to excess and half of all adults were overweight. Compared to 10 years ago, the percentage of smokers and excessive drinkers has decreased. The percentage of overweight people has stayed the same.

It appears that the ban on flavours for e-cigarettes (vapes) is affecting e-cigarette use. This was shown by an evaluation conducted by RIVM, which shows that 40% of the Dutch respondents had reduced their e-cigarette use because of the 2024 ban.

New radon measurements conducted in specific workplaces

In the Netherlands, the concentration of radon in most homes and buildings is low. This is due to the composition of the soil. In a number of particular workplaces, such as in marl quarry caves and at drinking water companies, the concentration of radon in the air may be higher.
