RIVM manages and shares data on the composition, units and measurements of food products and the composition of food supplements. On this page, we refer you to the different data files.
Dutch Food Composition Database (NEVO)
RIVM manages the Dutch Food Composition Database (NEVO). This database contains information on the composition of food products. This includes energy and nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. You can consult this database on NEVO-online.
Dutch Dietary Supplement Database (NES)
The Dutch Dietary Supplement Database (NES) is an additional database to the food database NEVO. NES lists the composition of dietary supplements commonly used in the Netherlands. In total, the database contains information on about 1,500 supplements, including individual and combined vitamin and mineral supplements, fatty acid supplements and sports supplements. The database is current up to 2021. For research purposes, it is possible to apply for a selection of the database. You can reach us by e-mail: nvip@rivm.nl.
Dietary units and sizes
The database for dietary units and sizes contains information on the weights and volumes of food products that are available (and ‘standard’) in the Netherlands. You can consult this database on Portie-online (in Dutch).
RIVM compiled this information in collaboration with the Netherlands Nutrition Centre and Wageningen University. Find out more under dietary units and sizes (in Dutch).
Quality Programme for Agricultural Products (KAP)
RIVM manages the Quality Programme for Agricultural Products (KAP), which contains monitoring data on substances related to chemical food safety in the various food chains. The KAP database contains chemical monitoring data for food products and animal feed. The data are supplied by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority and Wageningen Food Safety Research. Find out more on the KAP page.
The environmental impact of food products (LCA)
What is the environmental impact of food products during their entire life cycle? It is essential to learn more about this if we have to achieve a sustainable food system. To that end, RIVM publishes data on the environmental impact of food products in the Life Cycle Analysis database.
Netherlands Food Information Resource
The databases NEVO, NES, and Dietary units and sizes, along with the by the Netherlands Nutrition Centre LEDA Branded Food Database, make up the Netherlands Dutch Food Information Resource. Its aim is to link databases so that users may be able to find the data they are looking for more efficiently.
